Hi guys,

How is everyone?

I wanna know what diff is better to fit to a vit? The Calmini Anvil, or the steel gv diff.

What are the positives and negatives of both?

with the anvil you still need to get the steel pinion carrier from a GV otherwise you're stuck with the stock alloy one & you'll have trouble finding a wrecker willing to sell you half a diff.

Would you be able to use a Sierra carrier?

yeah, but there are a few hurdles... no pinion mount for starters & then there is the crossmember clearance issue due to the amount of diff drop is built into the calmini anvil.

Timbo_ is running the sierra carrier in an anvil & had a few dramas trying to get it all to work & i'm not sure if it's even back on the road yet.

i spoke to timbo last night and he has finally seen the light and is buying a sierra

A coily rear diff housing would be a great option for this. it would be easy to use the mounts that are already there to fix to for a pinion mount.

Major issue would be its from a Coily

Pretty sure that Calmini state the anvil has to be used with a 3" lift minimum also!

Didn't think it was worth starting a new thread so I'll ask it here... would I be right in assuming the Calmini Anvil won't suit the SV model Vitaras as the diff drop brackets are different compared to the earlier models (and on the Anvil they are welded on - not bolt on)?

Couldn't you just cut and shut the welded on brackets to the anvil in the same way you would if they were the bolt on brackets?

I did think about it, but without a steel GV 3rd, whats the point?

Anyone with a steel GV 3rd will have a steel housing aswell.

Can you use a rear sierra 3rd if you sorted out a pinion mount?

The main difference between the anvil and the GV housing (apart form the built in diff drop brackets) Is that the anvil already has a bearing carrier & shortened axle for the RH side, so you can run a LH side CV on the RH Side.

Makes trackside changes of your CV's a lot quicker & easier.

I have to put the sierra 3rd in, then try and bolt up the anvil around it is so large.

But im young and dumb and still will go anvil.

I Just wanted to save a heap of cash and use a sierra housing for the fact evey man and his dog has one in thier back yard. I managed to get one off shep with a lockright it too.

Timbo, I think the sierra 3rd caused you more problems than it normally would with a GV 3rd.

I know what timbo is saying about installing one of these things with the brackets already in place. I tried to do it after my front diff rebuild, it doesnt work. Ended up having to pull the drop brackets off.

The bearing carrier and stub axle mod is a Must in my opinion. I've had to replace 2 cvs trackside now, literally a 10 minute job.

Next mod on the agenda now is the hilux cv conversion.

So a GV Steel diff is a straight change over on a 1.6 carby (92) vitara??

I will only be getting a 2" lift, so from what I can figure the anvil won't work.

it can be done, you need to fashion some sort of pinion mount.

christover had a thread going about the sierra carrier, but ended going with the GV, will try & dig it out.

I know where there is one set up with 5.12's ready to roll.

what are you willing to pay? that is the 1 billion dollar question seeing they're so "hard" to get these days...
