behind the glove box in my sierra cable tied to the bracket that the bonnet cable goes through there is a little black box
is that supposed to be there or is some weird thing the previous owner installed?

if its on a widetrack its an emissions control module. yes, should be there.

What does an emission controls module do (apart from nothing) on a 1.3 carburettor powered car?? 8O

turns the EGR and charcoal cannister purge on and off depending on what gear its in

vacuum actuates it but it tells it when it can turn on, from memory it doesnt turn on in 4th and 5th so its doesnt loose power

those little vacuum solenoids on the inlet manifold are controlled by it

but what if the charcoal canister isn't hooked up to anything except the line from the fuel tank?
