Hello dudes,
I own a sj80 coily model with 2" tjm springs lift, and now i like to put some larger tires and want to share my thought with you guys and maybe make a decision, finally.

i use my car every day but also enjoy it very much on trips and off-roading.
i want to get little more clearance and ride comfort
for start i got 15" 7" rims .. and wanted to put some 235 on them, with lower gear in t/c, of course.

but,
i have read that the front axle of the coily are weaker than those on the leafy models, beside we don't have any stronger aftermarket shafts for the front axle and the bearings are pricey , in my country.

so i thought to myself may be it'l be better option to go with 215 tyres, and even change the rims to some light weight option than the 7" i just bought.

the pluses, better fuel economy, the bearings and the shafts will last longer..
and the ride should also be better with lower unsprung weight.

beside. using 1000cc t/c will also be more than adequate , and will save me money on pricey gear change on the t/c.

i like to here what do you think,
and also like to know if the magnesium 15" rims that comes with the jimny will be a good low budget option? posibly to get more light weight the standard 15" 5.5" steel rims the comes with the sierra?

is jimny magnesium will be a good light weight option?

i like to here your opinions guys.. and share some of your knowledge ..

thanks a ahead,
Ori..

I think the Jimny wheels would be alloy, not magnesium

I also think there wouldn't be a lot of weight difference, I think 235 would be ok strength wise

i looked into it a while ago... the difference between alloy and steel for weight is about 50grams per rim... the alloys need to be thicker than the steel to get the same strength, so they cancel each other out. If you did find an alloy that was significantly lighter in weight, it'd most likely also be weaker.

Don't go aggressive on your tyre selection to reduse traction - ie reduce stress on gears
It will be quite capable due to weight

Just my opinion.

Why a 7" rim, why not a 6" if you are only going to 235/75R15?

There are a lot of coilies getting around on 235s and 30" tyres. I have a 1.6L engine with 31"s on one of mine and yes you can break CVs easily if you are aggressive (I broke one once with 215/80s) but if you take things easy I don't see a problem with 235s.
