i wanted a bigger cam in my 1.3l serria.I want to know whats the best cam out there to buy and where to get one.

a cam will give you marginally more power but at the expense of loosing it somwhere else in the rev band, eg more top end power generally looses bottom end power, usually a trade off, just slotting in a cam into a standard G13 carb sierra will see pointless gains for money spent what year and model is your sierra and what mods do you currently have ?

Bigger cam with stock carby is a wast of time and money. U need to do your jets, fix the vac advance (cause they never work) drill hose for the vac secondarys ( I think steky did I write up on how to do it) do the last 2 see how that goes, then think about cam.

After going from a stock then a 1L TCase to 6.5s I had more than enough power. I really want some gears for the Jimny now.

Gearing is thier down fall, but lockers make them fall down.

Good for you.

You'd be far better off for a start giving it a good service, new plugs/leads/filters/oil etc, check the timing, and get the carby tuned up nicely.

Next, most Sierra motors are pretty old and tired these days. Rather than just chuck a cam in, a full rebuild might be a good idea - check your compression, you may be surprised at how low it is getting. If you want to throw a new cam in whilst rebuilding, then go for it.

Just throwing a cam in will make bugger all difference...

AFAIK there isn't much you can really "tune" on these carbies: idle mixture, idle speed, make sure the auto choke is working properly. It may be time to put a kit through it, or at least give it a good clean.

Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge of these carbs can add a bit more to that?

None that I know of... So just drop a G16B in there, much better option

Hi deegs88, mate I just read through this post and see that noone has actually offered any cam advice . I have had a play with a few 1300's and can tell you that we fitted a Crow cam to our old race sierra and it revved beautiful and had improved midrange power with no noticable loss in power anywhere else. It had extractors and a standard carbie that was in good condition. It had 200,000 on it but still performed better than any 1300 I have driven. I will get the part number from the shed tomorrow.
