I think u have the 4.1 and earlier mods from late 05 or 06 went to 4.3

A jimny master will correct me if im wrong, But im pretty sures it's right that u have a 4.1

I think you will blow up the transfer case if you run 4.3 rear and 4.09 front

YES!!!
That would cause major problems, the transfer case will bind up very easily and blow or even the diff as mentioned by "Monkey" if both the front and rear have good traction.

Put the 4.3:1 ratio diffs in the front and back and you will have 5% reduction 8) .

4.09 x2! Stop the incorrect rumours of jims with 4.1.

whats your trye size and setup. 4.3's may be a bit of help for slightly larger tyres, 215/75R15???

they are about 29" i think. thats 11.5% bigger than standard.
with 4.3 diffs you will only be out 6.5 %, so might be worth doing.
and if you add a sierra transfer (w/T) it would give you a further 6.7 % and a total of 13.2 % reduction be good for 29's or even 30"

What sierra case (ratios) are you referring to here? Is this 6.7% both high and low?
And what is his OEM box 1;2 or 1.3;2.6?

As i said a sierra W/T transfer (standard widetrack 1.409:1 in high and 2.268:1 in low).

The figures above are in reference to high range with the assumption that he would have a manual transmission. With that in mind, i had forgotten to ask a few important questions about his set up, my bad.

I will have to check if there are different ratios for the auto for the 99 model i have heard that it could be 1:1.

If not auto then i know that the transfer ratio is 1.320:1 in high and i think low is about 2.145:1.

From what I understand, all Jim T-cases are exactly double in low what they are in high. So changing to that Sierra case is going to increase high and at the very least, more than low, and do very little for low, unless a crawler set is installed as well.

Just run the 4.3 in the back whith bigger tyres. That should allow for a difference in gearing.

I have been inclined to believe differently.

The later model Jimny (2005+) have ratios of 1.00:1-high, 2.643:1-low and 4.3:1-diff for the manual and 1.32:1-high, 2.002:1-low and 4.09:1-diff in the Auto.

The early model jimny (2004-) have ratios of 1.32:1-high, 2.145:1-low and 4.09:1-diff for the manual and for the auto i am not sure so i will just leave that one alone.

In this particular case we are talking about the 2004- model. He has ratios of 1.32:1-High, 2.145:1-Low and 4.09:-Diff. The Sierra W/T transfers have ratios of 1.409:1-High and 2.268:1-Low. between these two transfer cases, when you do the calculations, you can see that there is a 6.5% reduction in High and a 5.6% reduction in low. so yes there is 1% less reduction for low range but that is not going to make too much difference. When and if he adds the 4.3:1 Diffs he would then gain a further 5% reduction in both high and low, giving him a total of 11.5% reduction in high and 10.6% reduction in low. As i said this is one way to correct the gearing for 235 (29) tyres which are 10% bigger.
That is all................
