I'm in the process of doing a RUF conversion and currently have my leaf springs apart for a service. The driver side spring has 20mm more camber (arch) than the passenger side. Will that be enough?

Could you just RUF one side, similar to how you did the virtual lift?

The only real way to fix the sierra lean is to get a 3rd biggest leaf that is slightly thicker and use that. You dont need any more leaves on the drivers side like some people run.

Adding an extra leaf just makes that side stiffer and it wont flex as well.

Re-setting the drivers side pack with more arch will fix the leaf but it will eventually sag and the lean will come back.

The thicker leaf gives it a slightle high load rating but its not enough to limit flex. I ran my sierra like this for 4 years and it never developed the lean again but still flexed like a bamboo shoot.

How many leaves in the front pack did you run?

The springs I have are 3 + overload. I've taken the overload out which leaves me with 3.. err, leaves.

So you'd change out the smallest leaf for a slightly thicker one?

Full or half RUF.
Have you done it yet? If not just push the front hanger forward a bit

Are you trying to annoy Royce? He hates the full/half RUF nomenclature.

BUT, if you've seen my fab work you'll agree full RUF  i'm moving the rear hanger and the front hanger.

I used to run 4 leaves front and rear with a small load leaf in the back. But my packs were custom made with 3/4 length military wrap 2nd leaves. Worked well with my setup.

I have never owned a sierra that leans, if I did I would not consider runing more leaves one side than the other that is crazy.

Why is that crazy? I have it and I'm sure as hell not crazy, neither is the road manners of my vehicle.

I run it and I am crazy. So based on the sample group there's a 50/50 chance you'll be crazy if you do it damo.

I had to run an additional leaf in my front drivers side pack but I haven't noticed any difference in flex from either side but at the moment I don't get full droop due to the bushes binding. I might notice it once that is sorted.

I set my DS front spring hanger 8mm further forward to try and help the lean. now my shackles are uneven and it annoys me ever time i see it. I run an extra medium leaf on the DS and that fixed it.

Same here. Now I have no lean but the shackles are noticeably different and it annoys the piss out of me.
For my zook that spends more time parked than driven, it's important. :D

I was interested to note that the 2012 Nissan GT-R runs different spring rates right to left and even different suspension pivot points on each side due to one side being heavier than the other.

I'll stand by running a heavier spring rate on the heavy side being an acceptable fix. If you think about it, the heavier side will impart more force on the spring when it encounters a bump so if you have the same rate left and right the right hand side will compress more.

The only way to have the right and left side compress the same amount when encountering the same bump is to run more rate on the right to compensate. More camber will correct the lean but will compress more readily.

Initially I hadn't considered this concept but after Steve mentioned it, it all makes a lot of sense.

Consider what I have now, you have the same rate spring on both sides but the weight is not evenly distributed (eg, if you weighed the vehicle at each tyre the driver's side would weigh more than the passenger side).

Now think about rounding a long sweeping bend at highway speeds. Mine currently leans a lot more when going around a left hand sweeper compared to a right hand sweeper. That is because the driver's side spring is trying to control more weight with the same rate.

The solution? Even out the driver's/passenger side weight distribution OR put a higher rate spring on the heavy side.

Oh, and FYI. Going back to my original question...

Now that i've done the conversion and have the springs in place I can tell you without a doubt that, no, 20mm is not enough

When i did my RUF, i made up 5 leaf packs with all the leaves with the most camber used on the DS. DS pack had nearly 1" more static camber then the PS pack.

It still sits low on the DS

Extra leaf in the DS pack seems to be a good idea.

The only perfect fix is to transfer as much weight to the passenger side as you can. Think of this when placing batteries, spare tyres, compressors etc.

There is a difference between different rates and different amount of leaves, all decent suzuki springs are marked right and left for the front because they are different rates to start with.

I am no expert but then again neither are any of you, speak to some suspension experts and ask them if it is good practice.

A 2012 Nissan GT-R may run a different rate one side to the other, but the coil spring still has the same amount of coils left to right.

You wouldn't run the drivers side tyre at 40psi and the passenger side at 10psi to eliminate the lean.........same theory.

No it's not 2 stroker and you know that.

It doesn't matter how more rate is achieved - thicker leaves, more leaves - meh - more weight requires more rate not more camber.
