hey guys
just in the middle of a ruf remodel
anyone got any good pics of custom made shock towers.
ive got some long pin top shocks from the spoa ive just pulled out and need to raise the shock tower approx 4-5 inches to use them.
any help or pics would be tops

Lowrangeoffroad sell Ford towers that you can bolt or weld on. Dunno exact dimensions but I'm sure Sean will answer any questions promptly.
Parts usually arrive within 5-6 days. US$29 each plus shipping.

Dunno how they'll go with pin top shocks. They look like they might need eye tops.. Not sure..

Are the existing shock towers in the correct position? If so another option could be to cut through the shock tower horizontally and weld in an extension.

yeah I thought that myself damo so i removed the stockers as the diff is about 25-30 mm forwards ,but I need the mount about 4-5 inches taller and by the time i streched to stockers that far they were becoming too tall and weak and were hitting the inner guard.
placing them is not the issue a I have removed and rewelded the bumpstop mounts as they missed also. this is a "full" ruf if you like with a chassis extension.
Gwagensteve sent me some great pics of custom ones but I was hoping for an off the shelf fix if possible.
the main pain in the arse is the shocks are pin tops.

Got them from lowrangeoffroad..


But when i went to the 35's, i had to modify them cause they were nearly hitting on the 32's..

So i moved them to the inside.. plenty of room now

Steve has got some good ones to suit pin top shock on his buggy. They look pretty easy to make out of flat bar too.

Just done mine But I used hilux towers
It raised the top just over 100mm (4")

The Ford towers from Lowrange are pretty sweet. They're no use for a pin type shock though, They suit eye-to-eye.

I've ran my zook for several years with the factory front mounts chopped horizontally and extended with 5mm flat bar.
Needed to move them for RUF so grabbed some ford towers. Wish I had done this originally because removing my dodgy extension took days with a 4" grinder.

The ford ones measure:
- 35cm total height from bottom to centre pin, giving you ~200mm over factory mounts.
- 25cm above the top of the chassis rail.
- They stick out 10.5cm from chassis rail towards tyre.

not sure anyone makes them stick mate, you will need new shocks once you put them in so why not just run big eye shocks?

I already have 10" travel pin top shocks, but am running those with big bumpstop extentions. I want to piss of the bumpstop extensions and to do that will need to raise the shock tower a bit. Steve had some pics of ones he did on his buggy, he's going to try to dig them up tonight.

I modified the ford ones to suit a pin top, shock. will be using these on my lj81.

folded the tabs flat. welded up the hole and re drilled. looks the goods

universal hoops, I wouldnt use them again too much work. the hoop had to be shortened and then cut and bent and welded back to gether again.

Thanks AJ, that does look like a fair bit of work. On top of that I am really wary of the tyre clearance to the shock tower of full stuff.

having shock hoops, does it allow the use for extended shocks or is it so stop it from hitting somewhere during flex?

There's no "benefit" to using shock hoops. They are just an extended shock mount.

In theory, they are quick and easy to bend up if you have a 180 degree die for a bender.

In reality, they are very space inefficient.

They're a hangover from what hilux guys have used for years.
