32nb 3.2mm wall is good

1.75" CDS, wall is about .100" or 2.54mm is what I've used in the past.

32NB is fine, but it's pipe not tube. Fine for a recreational cage but might not be permitted for competition, which is why steak_knife was asking what you wanted the cage for.

I have no idea what 40mm tube with a 4mm wall is - it's not a common size.

4mm is massive overkill for a sierra anyway. A well designed cage should never need tube that heavy.

Bear in mind though that the tube you use needs to suit the die you are using to bend it, so I'd start at the dies you have access to and work back from there.

Im building mine soon....already got the 4 point gunna build off that.....BUT i have searched high and low and asked a few people....

THe tube that runs down the fron go's between the dash and door...but i need a pick of it finished in the foot well....wouldnt it get in the way of the accelerator?

This is the best pic I've got of my old one, we ended up cutting the dash because of the size of the pipe, the cage sits about 10mm off the side which leaves enough room to fit some roll tube foam down there. There was plenty of room around the accelerator for me and I never tripped over the upright getting in or out, I did crack my head on the bar joining the a pillar to the b pillar, only the once though wasnt stupid enough to do it again.

suzukikid, you'll notice something about Red89's car in that shot - it has full harnesses.

Whilst the security of a full cage is awesome, there's a reason it's almost impossible to make one legal - they restrict interior room, and that's the irony of a cage - you are likely to hit your head on it in a roll unless you are wearing properly tightened harnesses, so, in fact, a helmet might also be required to retain the "safety" of not having a cage at all.

I don't know what type of driving you are planning on doing, but I would be considering a tightly integrated exo rather than an internal cage.

Part of the problem with an internal cage is that in a slow flop/roll you'll still wreck the car just as badly as if you had no cage at all. You might feel safer assuming you were harnessed and didn't hit the cage on the way over, but you might still have a wreck to tow home.

If course, if you are planning comps, then you'll have to comply with whatever is set out in the rules.

Personally, I wouldn't run an internal cage in a Sierra for recreational Victorian driving. I would consider a hybrid exo/internal cage using your existing 4 point rear 1/2.

I've lost count of how many flops I've seen over the years, and I've never seen a cage make any difference, recreationally. Of course I've seen plenty of rolls in comps where the safety equipment is vital.

My mates cage in his Sierra was good
It ran over the targa bar which gave heaps more Head room. It had little wings that came out just over the doors so when u lent on say a tree it would take the weight
It must have been strong as it had been on it's lid at least 3 times rec driving as well as the night drive at tuff truck
But like steve said he ran harnesses when of road
