Hey guys, I have a '99 G13bb jimny. It over heats a bit and is quiet annoying.... The things i've read, I don't have a heater, so I'm guessing my heater hose was routed back on itself to stop the heater core from leaking, this I'm guessing would also be why I can hear a boiling sound when I have my fan running (AC or not). I have flushed the rad, replaced the thermostat with a new one and gotten a new rad cap. I read somewhere that when you double the heater hose back on itself it makes it run a bit hotter, because it stops a bit of flow through the head. And that jimny's have a habit of keeping air pocket in the system. It only does it when I'm 4wd'n, or working hard like a beach.... And by over heating, I mean I have to stop the motor and run the thermo fan because I have it in the red, at the top, 4/4..... It's done 199xxxkms.

Am I up for a new heater core?

checked the viscous fan clutch or is it just running a thermo fan?

might pay to get the radiator rodded if the tanks still look good.

Jims have a engine fan clutch/viscous, and a thermo on the front for the a/c.

I have a good heater core here. Free if you need it with free post. Its out of the black jim, BUT, it sounds like there's more to it. I didnt run my heater core in my last sierra as it leaked. Temp was fine.

buy an IR gun and check the temp all over the block, thermostat housing, lower and upper rad hoses etc...

might be a dodgy thermostat, or perhaps the gauge is just reading wrong.

Mine did that, I think it's just a bad design as I couldn't find anything wrong.....

Okay, I'll go buy a fan clutch.

Can I just say to everyone that since buying the car from bluesuzy, Tim has been more then helpful, and like I'm sure you can read, is willing to go to extreme lengths and measures to make sure he isn't ripping anyone off. I wouldn't worry about it tim, it's a car, they break, I probably broke it.

have a look at how the heater has been bypassed, it looks in the manual they dont run a tap so its likely they need that coolant circuit to be always flowing, if its blocked it could be causing a hot spot and localised boiling

once its hot will it idle itself back to temp?

have a look at the viscous clutch & see if it's able to be serviced with the Toyota Silicone Oil like what Christover did to his Vitara one... might save you a bit coinage.

I had this problem a few months back, same model/km's.. there was some foam insulating stuff that had degraded then fallen down in front of the fan. Was only blocking airflow a tiny bit, but caused overheating / boiling coolant on sand.

I guess you checked that, just posting in case someone else has that problem.

I'll try a viscous clutch tomorrow. And yeah, my rad is pretty clean and tidy, I might grab the air compressor and blow it out tomorrow tho....

Mine also overheats on warm days with medium to heavy engine load. I've flushed that rad, which helped a bit, but it still gets hot.

Clutch fan is operating fine, as is the thermo. My heater is also bearly working, but it isn't bypassed or leaking.

Might get a new thermostat, and if that doesn't work, I think I'll drop it at a radiator/cooling system place for diagnosis.

Hmm, but any of my other 4wds never got hot, even 40deg and wheeling big rock real slow like..... Getting hot isn't even an option for me, that is just crap.

How do i check that it's my fan playing up? Is there some way to check it?

you keen on grabbing it when its up to temp and speed?

If its not working you can always take it out, jam a couple of screws to lock it and put it back in and have it run as a normal engine fan

i ended up going to Toyota and getting some fan clutch jelly. Because suzuki wanted $290 imported from japan.....

my fan oil was toyota, off ebay, delivered for $19

Yeah, it took about 25ml's of jelly to bring it back up, I wasn't sure how much was meant to go in but I figured if it hydro locks it will work even better haha

Didn't go on the beach in the end, night shift makes you not see a busy wife all week... Will try to go for a wheel soon.

Although I did tow a heavy trailer with 235s and stock gearing on a 35° day and the needle didn't move a mill... Pretty happy

Well guys it's been a few weeks now and I've been driving with the AC cranked, towing trailers, loaded up, drifting, doing multiple hours solidly cruising. It's awesome



So the differences, it now doesn't rise or lower the temp at all, the engine heats up quickly, and the AC works a fair bit better then before.

Havn't been wheeling yet, but when I do I will report back.

Haha, I'm working 12days straight. Wish I had time to scratch myself...

And my ORA should be here within the next month, and that's kinda needed for wheel with 235s.... Friggen poor effort on suzuki's behalf with the lowrange department....
