Wow! The forum has had a makeover since my last visit... looks the goods

Anyhows - I have a rust spot on both sides of my front clip near the headlights.





Not the best pick, but you can see the rust is bubbling through on the back. What's the best way to stop this in it's tracks?

Im not 100% sure what the profesionals would say but i would get a wire wheel for a drill and hit it with that untill its back to nice clean metal and then paint rust kill or simmilar on there. it shouldnt matter if there is a hole there no one is going to see it.

id try and give it a sand blast , check the weld , seam seal and paint

Its double skinned and the rust is starting between the two sheets. Best to cut it out, dunno how you would stop it from the outside.

bingo penitrol is the stuff or por-15 i think its called spray that and it seeps in between the double panels and i think it can be mix with paint but check first i maybe wrong

In the day, they use to get a hole saw and just cut it out. No steel no need to worry.

I am a penal beater you carnt beat rust nor prevent it you have to cut it out and weld new piece in sand it back have a look if it isn't that bad eg no holes and can be sanded away just clean and get some deoxidene and brush on then wait 20 then wash off with water if it has holes and is thin cut out and make new piece weld that in and fether out the paint edges and fill with bog rub smooth and flat then spray make shaw you don't touch the steel before you bog as the rust will come strate back

wire wheel/ scraper or screwdriver to scrape it back and get rid of the lumpy bits, soak it in R10, let that do its stuff, when its dry- drown it in penetrol both sides and in any gaps- make sure it gets inside.

after it is dry- give it some more, when its dry- drown in paint.

much the same as the rusty bits you did earlier.

It's been grinded, wire-wheeled and R10-ed for now. Cleaned up and almost ready for paint otherwise -no more engine bay jack mount, indicators are back to the front of the guard and the holes welded and filled, other small dings sorted too.

I think i'm just gonna push sikaflex into every nook and cranny to try seal from any muck buildup.

40mm hole saw straight through will remove the rust and make sure it never comes back.
a few spots of weld on what is left of the bracket will hold it in place.
Paint and call it good.

yep just make some speed holes and your all good very common place to rust

As above! The only real way to try and slow it down/stop it.

Speaking of which, What the bloody hell steel are these Suzuki panels made of? They rust like anything! Must be recycled tanker steel or something from the ocean floor!

its not the steel , but the quality of the paint and sealing process.

that and sierra's are just a dirt trap

Also painting body panels in flat black can draw moisture in, so does undercoat left unpainted.

Moisture isn't a problem in Perth It's 35º every day with no humidity, and if it does rain it's generally a 5 minute show.
