Hi all, after selling my jeep I finally purchsed a Vitara.

Its a 1997 Vit with only 99xxx km's on the clock, city car.


I want to lift the car and run some muddies. I was thinking of 235/75's on a 15x7 rim, not to sure about what offset i should be going with though?

Now, to help the muddies clear the guards I was thinking of going down the path of a 2" Suspension lift and 2" body lift... or is this overkill for the vit?
Im not entirely sure what lift I need to run the 235's so any recommendations would be a great help:)

also, because this is a 'Budget' sorta toy for me and will be my daily driver, I'd like to spend as little as possibe ( would we all... )
Would the lowrange offroad Complete Budget 2" lift with the longer rear shocks be good enough to get me up and running? what would you personally recommend thats cheap yet effective?
Would prefer to buy local if possible.

Mate I think you should go tough dog lift, it's got a great ride with it and you get a fair amount of flex I think it is a 30mm lift but that's is enough for 235tyres

Depends how much your budget is, but the lift is about the 1000 dollar mark. But it's an option

On my Vitara i had a 2" lift and a set of 235/75/15 (federal couragia mt) on some sunnies that were +3 offset. they only just stuck outside the guards. You may need a small bumpstop spacer in the rear to stop bigger tyres eating the top of the wheel arch. 2" lift with a set of 235's looks good and will not draw much attention either as it looks fairly stock. 235's will fit on stock height but there may be a bit of rubbing on flex.

If you can stretch your budget try and get a kit that is extended struts, shocks and coils which will be a nice replacement to the older factory gear but will give more flex rather than just more static height. look at dobinsons, ironman or OME kits which all make an extend front strut.

Dobinson do a good 2'' lift for just under 1k... Won't need body lift on top of that to fit 235s

If your on a tight budget you can just fit spacers. Definately not the best option but its cheap.

Ive got a set here i dont need. $120. Brand new. Never fitted. Bought by mistake and they wont fit the GV.

The low range budget spaces are good. Put the 235's on your stock rims and they will fit no problems

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Thinking I might stretch the budget a bit and go for something like the dobinsons kit, problem is i cant find one online to look at? maybe im not searching hard enough, can only find a spring kit without struts & shocks, but that doesnt even state if its a lift..hm. would someone be able to point me in the right direction?

So, 2" suspension lift with 235/75's on a 15x7" rim with a +5 offset might do, throw in some camber bolts and im all set, right? or wrong??... Will i need diff drop or any other spacers/brackets to get the best out of the kit i choose?

You can buy the kit from Dobinson direct (will be slightly cheaper too).

Part numbers:
Front Struts: GS57-620
Rear Shocks: GS57-621
Front Springs: C57-016
Rear Springs: C57-013
Camber Kit: WA57-505K

I got 50mm lift all round using this kit and the car handles MUCH better.
Will try to dig the PDF up for you.

You won't need any brake lines, drop brackets or anything else. You will need a wheel alignment once installed though.

With just a 35mm/2" lift you'll be fine without diff drops for the front, wouldn't hurt getting a spacer for the rear (Bits4Vits carry one). Should also be able to get by without extending bump-stops, but maybe see what the tyres and shocks do once it's fitted. I know it's shitty to do the job twice, but the rear end is a piece of piss to take apart and put back together.

Depending on strut travel you might want to look at flipping the strut mounts - easy mod for an extra 2" if the struts aren't keeping up.

Dobinson stuff for a full kit will set you back around the $900-$970 mark. No need for any brackets, flips, extensions etc, its a simple swap over.

yeah they will fit on stock rims & yes it's a BIG problem running different diameter tyres front to back. if you engage 4wd you will get transmission wind up from the 2 different rolling diameters of tyres front to back.

My car come with 235 when I got it and it just scrubbed on a few spots
That was on 0 offset rims
Any thing over +5 should clear
If 235 can go on stock rims I'd go with them to save some coin

Its only 40mm but i could just add 10 or 15mm coild spacers i guess?

This whole rim offset thing has got me a bit worried, i dont wanna go to much offset or not enough..
Throw some pics up of your offset and some info of the rims/lift if you have any guys:)

mate yes 235's do fit without lift, see my pics above^^^^ i run -13/15 on a 15x7. got a bit of scrub but nothing major, 235's on stock rims fit with out scrubbing. as seen below
