ok so i need to convince my wife that a sierra will be more comfortable than they are then i need to ether find one someone has already modified to have a bigger motor & auto (really don't want to stuff around with this stuff anymore not enough time) that they want to sell for a descent price.
MAN! i am screwed should have waited to sell the patrol.
is there anything else n the market to compete with a SWB Vitara for size but is better off road that i am not going to need to spend months building? or am i pretty much screwed till i can find somewhere to store a bigger car then, get another patrol?

The arms are a good piece of work, but do you really wanna pay that much for arms? You can buy springs and shocks, strut and a-arm spacers for much much less.

You can go with a Vitara and achieve this, but it's going to be a LOT of custom work. I've done most of what you're talking about with the SE416 vitara - check out my build thread here - viewtopic.php?t=18996If I had my time over, I would have started with the SV620, it "MAY" mean the Hilux CV conversion would fit without having to widen(it's a possibility but not certain), the V6 allows that little bit more power/torque, and I would definitely have gone for an Auto, which would then mean I may be able to get away with 32's or even 33's. at the moment, it's marginal for drivability on 31's Hope this helps.

Well the beauty of a well setup sierra is that it should be a more plush ride than factory and hence more comfortable. A LWB will always absorb the bumps better than a SWB though.

Most sierra's with autos will be full on comp rigs you will find... Not really.... at least not factory auto... perhaps a Disco or Cherokee? but they are bigger than a Vitara... If you don't want to build something, you may have to settle for a Vitara, and accept that its not going to go as far as the patrol did. or buy your wife a buzzbox, and get a manual sierra and park it at a friends house or in a container or something. or teach your wife to drive a manual...lol

ok so so far info is
there is no other car on the market in this size that is near as capible or comfortable.
i need to suck it up and accept that unless i spend a fortune and have what is basically a comp car it is not going to compete with the patrol.
so moving on i should get a SV620 / auto not bother with the Calmini kit but invest in good spring, strut & a-arm spacers, with body lift, ratios & lockers. by running auto i should be able to run bigger tiers (hoping Simex ET2 or the Silverstone copies)
from looking at the rest of this forum i should be able to make up some sliders, under-body armor, and custom front & rear bars.
what else would you guy's suggest to do to one of these to increase its reliability, power, & all-round performance

i would think about 2 feet longer. basically the length between the back edge of the front door and the back of the back door at the sill.

Steve.
this isnt true of all vitaras, wide track ones have 4.6 diff ratios stok so you can swap them with 5.12s from other vitaras to achieve spot on gearing for 31" tyres. on a side note, slow check this out sorry for blatant plug it might suit you though vitarai changed it back to standard for the sale, but ive also got 5.12 diffs for it (front one in steel) 40 mm dobinsons suspension lift (prob like 3000 ks on it) and five 31X10.5" a/ts (prob less than 1000 ks on them) on black sunnies. lwb vitaras are still half the size of a patrol : )

LWB Vit with 2" suspension, 2" body lift and 31s, LC80 with 2" suspension and 31s. Height about the same, but length and width VERY different!
