I have come to the realisation that the sierra transfer case will NOT be adequate for my needs (in the ute) so I have almost decided to run a LT230 transfer from a rangie. From my googling, I have found that they are available with a 1.4:1 high range in certain models ( mostly defender D-90's) but can't pinpoint what year model; if any; would have those here in Oz.
I can get the ratios out of the UK (new) so its not a massive drama, just a little more expense.
Any ideas?

I'll badger them tomorrow. To be honest I was expecting to get slammed for wanting a rangie t-fer in my sierra, but all the fanatics must be asleep

Just going with the 3.8 mentioned above..
Along the lines of more power and no fancy driveline tricks my last guess is forced induction.

Well at the moment I'm just trying not to paint myself into a corner. And keeping the sierra t-case is doing exactly that. It may tolerate the J20 for a little while, but I could never trust it enough to take on a long trip anywhere. That, and I need this ute to be able to haul/ carry reasonable loads ( >1200kg's ) from time to time, and that rules out the sierra case straight away.
So future plans aside, the sierra case still has to go.

Last time I was at double island. A landy smashed some thing in his transfercase right in front of us trying to do this sand dune. He had no drive to his rear wheel. Not sure how strong they are but some thing broke quite easy.

Do a quick google search and you'll find they are ranked right up there. Some people even think they are better than the D300 cases. I could buy an atlas, but thats about 3 times more than I want to spend on a transfer.
