55W/12v=4.58a. Since 20 Amps is over 4 times 4.58, it's ample.

i would use two 20amp relays as using something at 95% max capacity would limit its reliability.

or just get a good relay to start with, i use 70amp jobbies and real cable

is it 4mm2 cable or just that crap on a roll from stupid cheap.

good 4mm2 cable would be around 30amp but the 4mm stuff from shit shops would be lucky to be 10 amp.

Springers (I think that's what they are called) @ lawnton do a lot of 12v stuff. They are reasonably priced and great to deal with

I was a bit drunk when I read and responded so I didn't take into account quantity required.

3 x 55W = 165W
165W/12v=13.75A. Still well within spec of a 20A relay.

I'd check out Jaycar or Altronics if you have one nearby. They both have online websites as well.I was a bit drunk when I read and responded

Are we talking 4mm conductor or 4mm OD of cable? 4mm copper would be overkill. Shep is right in that 4mm OD could vary in the actual amount of copper considerably. More insulation = less copper = less current capacity.

Single 4mm2 at the usual 1.5m length for a bar mounted spotlight is .2v drop, I think that could be done better

Rather using your supercheap 4mm cable (Usually this is 1.84mm2) but with a single run per light, so 3 runs, will give you 0.017v drop, much much better

Though I dont know if HID lights are as sensitive to voltage drop as halogen and really youll get more drop in the entire system from bad joints and poor crimps

Brendale... Go to AME Products. They carry an extensive range of automotive electrical. Not on show, all by catalog. Just tell em what you are doing and what youy think you want.

This will work but is not ideal..... this type of cable doesn't handle vibration too well and can fatigue and break when used in cars.

AFAIK, they only sell bulk... I just went to them and purchased a 30m roll of 6mm wire. i think thats good for 50Amps?? costs $60... i used it for headlight relay upgrade and spotties (55W HIDs) and works excellent. cant remember figures but it was bugger all voltage drop.
