I moved my front axle in the Sierra forward 30mm by redrilling the ubolt plate and spring perches.
now the pitman arm/tie rod end is impacting on the drag link.
my question is.. if i unbolt the tierod end from underneath the pitman arm and rebolt it on top of the pitman arm which would raise the tie rod about 1.5 - 2 inches. would this improve the impacting situation when I hit bumps ?

You can't. The hole in the pitman arm is tappered to suit the tappered shank of the TRE.
Move your diff back, or steering box forward.

I don't like those answers so I am going to put my hands over my ears and go "LALALALALALALALALLA not listening!" re-drill tapered hole perhaps

I don't like the tone of your answer Fatzook but I do like (out of context) the term "flog about in the hole"

There's no flatter pitman arms that I'm aware of that bolt to a Sierra steering box. Vitara boxes have a very flat pitman arm, but it's not a solution for you before Saturday. . Bumpstop spacing is in your near future. Steve.

Thanks OB1
There will be grinding and banging in Toolangi come Saturday, and it will be the call of the mighty Sierra.

Time for power steering then I have the BenT kit with vitara power steer and it mounts the PS box approx 20mm further forward to help with rub/redrilled perches.

or you could fit a pitman arm out of a jimny, about 7mm shorter than sierra.

Jon, you are going to have to space it 50mm, steering is going to be a nightmare on loose rough tracks if you don't.
Only problem with this is that you currently only have ~50mm bump clearance.

22mm is the magic number, to avoid these issues. Too late now, but gives you an excuse to look at power steer options

christover1 wrote: 22mm is the magic number, to avoid these issues Could this be more cryptic? I assume you mean 22mm of axle relocation, but you could as easily mean 22mm of bumpstop spacing. In any case, Jon is running new 33's so needs all the help he can get to clear the firewall, and will likely need bumpstop spacing to keep the tyres out of the inner guards, so with bumpstop spacing he avoids steering issues and gains clearance. 22mm of axle relocation may well allow stock bumpstops and no steering contact, but piggles ran 30mm relocation, 50mm bumsptop spacing and I had no steering contact even with a sleeve on the drag link. Steve.

I have just drawn up the plans for the bump stop spacing, 25mm block at the front to bring it to 18mm of "daylight" as Steve puts it. and 30mm block at the back (which has to be welded on) to leave 20mm of daylight.
The firewall is fine atm but I do have a power steering set up on it's way next week thanks to pay-day today. But as far as what parts of the BenT kit I will need... that's another story.

BenT kit is pretty straight forward you will need the whole kit, as its really just a bracket for the pump, spacer for the rad and a wedge for the PS box (exxy bit). If you need a hand let me know I can send pics of line routing etc.
