hi all i was just wondering what is the difference in the g13a engine and the g13b? and how to tell the difference between them?

G13B is 1298cc, G13A is 1324cc (longer stroke, taller block) and the block will be marked.

The G13A will be 8v SOHC, the G13B can be 8 or 16V, SOHC or DOHC.

There's really 4 kinds of g13...

G13a - SOHC 8v (NT sierra, swift, barina) 1324cc
G13b - DOHC 16v (swift gti)
G13ba - SOHC 8v (swift, barina, WT sierra) 1298cc
G13bb - SOHC 16v (jimny, swift)

Theyre all pretty different!

You can tell what is what by the engine number - it will start with the engine type, ie: G13A.... or G13BA....

how to tell the difference, looking at the left (passenger) side of the block, just in front of where the transmission attaches, there will be either G13A or G13B stamped on it... and you will be able to tell the difference between the SOHC and DOHC, if not, google images SOHC and DOHC, you'll pick it up easy after that.

arighty then cheers for the info, another stupid question, but im still learning about this shorta shit haha, so i have a g13ba wt sierra if i was wonting to put a g13a or a g13b engine into how much and what would i have to change to make them fit? cheers.

g13a - there's no benefit, its the same motor really.

g13b - search "GTI engine" as that's what theyre commonly referred to.

IMO - if you're keen on more power, just plonk a 1.6 (g16) in there - you have the choice of carby or efi - go EFI if you can.

Alrighty then to put a g16 In it what would I have to change and how difficult would it be to do your self?.

I could do it my self, Alien could do it himself, but Im not sure you can just yet.
If your just learning, its a BIG job mostly because of wiring and fuel, unless you put in a carby G16 (dont).

Start on small projects before an engine change and work your way up to it,. ;D

okay then, how much and what would i have to change to put a carbie 1600 in my wt sierra?

I'm pretty shure that the block is not actually taller, the crank is molded different it is not hollow the 1298(g13b&g13ba) has a different moulding of the crank it is hollow and is better balanced,the cams are also different ,and the g13b was used as a gti block but also as a 8v combination

BenT kit and a plug on the vit carby changed

Most stuff plugs in exept for the plug to the carby. I did the conversion in one day and was very happy
With the result.

AND the sump has to be changed to a sierra one and the oil pickup needds to be cut and welded.

I didn't change the sump on mine and it didn't come close to the diff however my front diff is around 60mm forward from stock.

I won't be changing the sump on the G16b that I am putting into my lwb either
