How does one go about permanently locking the viscous hub fan in a vitara. This is only a temp fix to see if my temperature will drop.

lock it up by drilling a couple holes through it & bolt it solid.

I pulled the old thermo out as it was totally rooted. I was seeing if it would run cool without it.

Get a proper thermostat in it before jumping to overheating conclusions.

Yeah mate!

Also how old is your coolant, if you have access to a refractometer or some test strips you can check if that could be your issue.

Thanks but I think I've got bigger problems. The locked hub didn't do bugger all. Have a mate that gets back Thursday that's going to run some tests. Otherwise sando offered to do some tests but he's at Ipswich, don't really want to drive that far.

I've been looking at a few options.

Low km jap import compression tested engine for $1450 3 month warranty
High km engine from a engine dismantler for $1100 3 month warranty
Fully recoed exchange from suzisport for $2200

Not sure if I'll bother to rebuild mine. Not sure on the cost factor. Will def get it crack tested before hand. If its salvageable I might get it rebuilt and either sell or keep sealed up.

How old is the engine and how bad is it running? I'm finding it very hard to believe you have overheating issues with a locked vit fan and an alloy sierra radiator. I'm assuming you are running a fan shroud and the radiator has been checked professionally and rodded out if there were any issues in that area.

There has to be some sort of issue causing this. What's your timing like?

The owner of the engine said it had about 160ish thousand Kay's. I haven't taken the radiator in to a shop cause it's brand new. Yes running a shroud. I'll buy a thermostat in the way home.
