I see the big reason we have so many rules and regs these days with modifying cars, is that somewhere along the lines, accidents have been caused by poor ideas, skills, materials etc and recommendations have come out to tighten up the regulations.
Rather than sleeving and butt welding tubes together, look at cutting to length and welding new ends on instead.
The bearing housings for common diffs like 9" and borg warners are reasonably cheap but I don't know about suzuki ones.
For the fronts, the big ball on the end will more than likely have a shoulder already pressed into the tube. If you carefully cut out the welds you should be able to re use the end.
This would go a long way to satisfying any engineering requirements. If you duplicate what was originally there, it looks better on paper. If you put a join in then it is an additional failure point.
All the welding would need to be done as per the Australian Standard too. Totally agree with everything but we are talking an LJ for off road use here (I think) not some abortion with a V8 motor for the saturday night Pitt street drags.

Nice attitude JB
Was just saying how things easily bend with weld.

in the jig above where they got alloy pucks made.
any one know if using bearings that fit the sizes needed would work instead?

Jig or not a Jig, seems to me a crap load of people narrowing diffs using this method.

They seem to be moving quite a few of those, so it must work. There was a good write up in Street Machine sometime in the last year or so about the custom diffs that Difillipo does. They all go in the press to straighten after welding. A company I once worked for made a jig for a doorslammer team. They used it for their top fuel bike chassis and I remember seeing a diff being built on it at one stage. It was 25mm or 30 mm plate and once all the fixtures were in place you could completely mess up the sequence and it would still come out straight. These diffs were quite short end to end though.

i found my copy, was the june edition... don't have a scanner at home but here are some pics of the jig. even with a jig like that it still ends up having to be straightened.
