Gday everyone I'm new to this forum so go easy on me ah :D

My 1.3ltr EFI is just about shat , she has many issues but most of them are bottom end , BUT , I have the oppurtunity of installing a 1.6ltr EFI Vitara motor in.
My question is do you need a adapter plate for the bell housing or do they just bolt in.
To me I see know reason for one but at the end of the day I dunno.
I don't want to waste me money in buying the 1.6 and find out that she don't fit , where I can spend the money and time and get this 1.3 bored out and fixed up.
What do you reckon?
Cheers
Brad.

A) yes, you'll need an adapter. The G13 and G16 use a (slightly) different bolt pattern.

B) don't bother getting the G13 rebuilt. The cost of doing it well will be far more than the cost of the 1.6 conversion, and it is likely to have a short life.

Use your head and the bottom end of the 1.6 EFI motor. You don't want to use the distributor, AFM and old school injection of the 1.6 vitara motor - the jimny is a whole generation more sophisticated.

After you get it done, make sure you get the A/F ratio checked on a dyno - the jimny computer may, or may not fuel the 1.6 properly. I'm sure it will drive OK, but it might not be right.

Thanks a bunch for your input mate.
The only problem is , is that I can't find anywhere for the past 2 weeks who makes these adapters.
Any idea where or who makes them?
Cheers

Hi,
just a random thought,

if its an early jimny with a g13 block the conversion sounds comparitively simple,
however not sure how much work would be required if its a later jimny with the M13 engine, as when we did some work on a coily M13 conversion the gearbox from the g13 didn't line up with the m motor, and had use the m series gearbox.

Yeah she's the Series 1 version.99 model with the G13bb donk.
I agree with you , I honestly don't think there would be much to do.

You can get the adaptors from a bloke in UnZed. Not sure who he is but I've heard he's reasonable.

what is the comparison between a rebuilt motors claimed likely short life and an unknown condition second hand 1.6's life.

also if you kept the jimny injection you'd probably want to just swap the g13bb inlet manifold, rocker cover and everything to do with the cooling system onto the g16b, so that you don't have to change anything except for the adapter kit

don't get too carried away g-man. its a little more sophisticated.....but not that much. the main difference is coil packs, and don't go thinking map sensors are a whole lot better that mass air flow sensors, they aint! (they are just a little cheaper and simpler for the manufacturer, while giving very similar performance results.)

tip - use the vit injectors.

oh...and i had a jimny with a 1.6..............yeay me.......... :woohoo:

vitara boxes need no adaptors, but i did have to make a new cross member for the box as well as other stuff. but the jimny box should go well for a while.

Hey, that would be me you're looking for. I have just started lurking on here, and mainly post on O*terlimits  . PM me if you want a kit.

I have one of my kits runnung in a customers Jimny. He used a G15a motor, with the Jimny manifold bolted on, using the Jimny loom and computer.
He did swap the injectors to the G15a ones, but they were a direct swap.

From feedback so far though, you will need a body lift, even with the lower Jimny intake manifold.

I was hoping not to put a body lift in because it ain't part of me budget.
But I'll PM ya tomorrow night about it mate.

$200AU - shipped to anywhere in OZ.

Should be a link in my sig with a pic.

And I should point out the kits only work with the G13 Jimny's not the later M13 powered ones.

Can vouch for the quality of BenT's adaptor kit. Smicko and bloody cheap compared with Yank and other kits. Just fitted a G16A to my Sierra using it. Comes with good instructions also.

:woohoo: Another Kiwi!!

Welcome Ben. I can also vouch for Bens adaptors. I fitted one on the weekend, very easy and looks like good quality stuff. I loved the machined studs :D
Body lift kits are cheap from just_cruizin too, also a good kit and easy to install (when he supplies the instructions)

Yep got Ben's adapter in mine. Its good kit. Also Ben I like how you spelt outers with an asterix in there. Auszookers doesn't have a swear filter so you can spell outerlimits correctly. :p
