It's a common issue with the SOHC single cam head. My car smokes like a mofo until it's warmed up a bit, then doesn't smoke and doesn't use any oil from that point.
Unforunately, they are a bit of a PITA of a job to do. No $$ in parts, all labour.
mine did similar too - luckily it was under warranty and was fixed free of charge... turns out that the brand new stem seal had hardened right up - must have been a bad batch or something.
i can't stand having leaks, or smoke personally - its embarrassing and an easy way to draw attention from the police. Of course, if its only on startup its not so bad, but still, the OCD in me would want to get it fixed =)

Suzistore probably didn't do it an charged you for it mate.

they don't do their own head work, they send it out... when they failed, they sent it back to the guy who did it who said he'd not seen stem seals harden like that before, replaced them and sent it back.

don't be such a hater =)
I'm just saying as part of an engine rebuild it's usually the sort of thing you'd replace.
like i said - they were replaced... but they went hard after about 2 months of driving.
either way, the point remains that if in a few years mine hardened up again i'd probably spend the $$$ and get them done cos it'd annoy the hell out of me.

I'm probably going to get mine done when the engine comes out again to fix another rear main, the bloke didn't do that right so it's free of charge, throw some coin at it and get it fixed

Would you guys think that Valve Seals could still blow smoke after 5 seconds????
Ive got 150PSI over all four cylinders on compression test still a little confused wether its valve steam seals apprently there pretty common by the sounds of it.Has anyone on here done them???
Yes - 5 seconds for sure. Mine will smoke almost continually until there's some heat in the motor to burn it off, then it's clean as a whistle. It also depends where in the cycle the engine is when it's parked. Sometimes you'll get almost no smoke, sometimes heaps.

No shortcuts, just do it like the Manual says, and make sure you have all the right tools. Just be aware that even for the Professionals it's a one or two day job to replace the $10 or $20 bucks worth of little seals. How long do you think it might take you the first time?

I'd be inclined to take head off, drop it at a machinist, get him to pressure test it, replace the valve stem seals, valve grind if required, and clean it in the acid bath.
you get it back a few days later, throw it back on with a new VRS kit, clean everything meticulously while the head is off.
And then youve got yourself an engine that top half is in 100% condition.
if any of the perth guys who are good at head work(hahaha sorry it cracks me up everytime) are bored i have a head that could do with some new valve stem seals if they wanna swing over and help its a suzuki but not my jimny or any other 4 wheeled suzi

Do this! There's just too much pain involved if you haven't done it before

From learning the hard way.. dont do it half arsed.. I recently got a motor and fitted it on the word it was a good runner..(yet to fix the fella up for it.. and actually considering taking it out and returning.. a fucked motor is of no use especially when I need it as the zukes my daily!!)
Kicking myself.. should of just done a full rebuild on one of the others I have around.
Unfortunately my smoke isnt only just at start up..
My guess is rings.. gets some serious back fires upon deceleration, and obviously the smoke upon acceleration and under load.. (the tapping is as the camera rattles against the passenger mirror)

I am guessing the camera is pointing backwards, towards the rear tyre... looks like the smoke is coming from underneath somewhere, is the exhaust shortened, or is there a hole in it ? Seems to go pretty well, going by your acceleration, just smokey, which the cops will jump on... so how much was it ? I would be getting a reduction in the asking price, and if he wont, give him the bloody engine back...

Lol, yeah camera is pointing backwards... and I am running a side exiting exhaust... the tip, barely visible in front of the rear wheel...
acceleration isnt blistering.. but wouldnt say its bad either. it does get a bit of a hiccup and misfire when around 3.2k on the freeway. idle is eratic.. one set of lights, will need to keep your wits about you, as it drops and stalls out, the next set.. will sit a touch under 1k..
original price was 300.. but had to remove the engine from the donor vehicle in 35+ heat, and after lending them a hand with removal of other items gearbox, rear diff, wheel spacers(bastard to get off on a removed diff).. came to 250.

Yeah thought so, so thats where the exhaust terminates... Ah ok, well $250 is a pretty good deal, even if it needs a bit of work... sounds like the carby is playing up, needs a carby kit, or an exchange carby...

Yeah.. exhaust exits infront of rear wheel.. as per photo..
just a bugger thats its so smokey.. Guess its rebuild time.. rather than just slapping a set of rings in it.. hard choice as the one that came out just needed new big end bearings(im assuming-was knocking)
sucks learning the hard way.. Quick fixes are NEVER quick.. or cheap!
Carby wise.. Iv still got my 4k carb on the old engine.. chances are that will make its way onto whatever ends up staying in the zuke.. Stockers have to much going on with them for my liking.

Yep, we all learn by our mistakes, and doing things on the cheap, they can be cheap learns, or expensive learns, you got off fairly cheaply this time...
