What Engine oil do you use in the 2.5V6 Grand Vitara.

I use 5w40 because apparently that doesnt clog up your timing chains and cause the rattle. If this is correct or not, i dont know.

Ive been using Nulon 10w40 and its started to get bad timing chain noise. Time for a flush and some better quality oil and filter.

It also depends on your climate. When I lived in Melbourne I used Castrol 5w30. When I moved to Sydney it was too thin and was consumed it quickly. I changed to 10w40 and it was much better - reduced consumption etc.

Might give Penrite 5W40 a go after i give it a good flush.

I just started using castrol magnatec - 10w40, virtually no rattle. Was using castrol 15w40 previously and it rattled a little more than it does now.
Not too sure about filters...i thought they all had that anti drain back value thingy

In my other thread there is talk of using Deisel oil due to its cleaning properties..... Might be a goer for keeping things clean.

Dropped some Penrite HPR5 (5W40) in it and the after doing a lifter bleed (2000rpm for 20mins) it all seems good. Still have a little bit of rattle but ill see how it goes after some driving. Plan to drop the oil again in 2500kms a d stick with penrite oil. Its rated for petrol and light duty Diesel motors so has the cleaning detergents in it.

Put the same in my h20a on the weekend as well, pretty much got rid of the timing chain rattle except just after start up before its warmed up

Should be perfectly fine......

Im going to go back upto HPR10 next change. I think the HPR5 is a bit thin and is creating some lifter noise.

5.5l with filter sounds like that spec list is for the J20a 4cylinder NOT the H20/25a V6 as the refill capacity is 6.0l with filter.

The best thing about my supplier is that have a tech bloke that I can ring up and he will work out if I can put a certain oil in a car and meet specs. There was a fuecked up Ford in the workshop yesterday that needed some specific synthetic oil that I had to order in like the stupid volkswagen shitboxes that take specific blended volkswagen oil :p

Same here in my wife's 2.7. I have tried a few different oils to minimise rattle on start and towards the end of service interval, and the Magnatec is noticeably better (no chain rattle at all). I mostly use a Suzuki oil filter although have also used Ryco from Supercheap on occasions without noticing any difference. This is in Sydney so may be different in cooler climate.

i did allot of research on this after buying mine with a bad rattle and the intention of fixing it (IE new timing chain kit) however i used a proper engine oil flush which i added to the warm engine aloud the engine to idle for 10 mins giving it the occasional rev to about 3000rpm just a fluctuation and then promptly drained the oil (still hot).

my research told me to run 5W30 and thats what i put in

my research told me to ditch the crappy ryco filter the reason behind this is they allow back flow of oil and prevent the hydraulics in the timing chain tensioner from working correctly.
i replaced it with a genuine suzuki oil filter i got from the dealer at $15.

the engine now runs much quieter and and is getting better after every drive.
my mechanic has now instructed me not to worry about the timing chain until it starts getting louder as it is nearly not present atm (just idles like a diesel truck )

this is in the H20A but is essentially the same motor exempt the bore/stroke.

I use Valvoline Durablend 10W40 Semisynth, its made for engines under loads, and 4WD's, its not cheap, about $47 for 5L, but gives me extra piece of mind...

For the Genuine Oil Filter, they used to be $40, but have come down to $15 now, and they do quieten timing chain noise, or remove the noise completely, like it did with my GV...

Sorry I beg to differ H20A from the SV620 manual and I quote "oil pan about 5.5, oil filter about .4 other .6, total about 6.5 liters" the last time I changed mine it took allmost that but I do wind it over a few times after removing the oil filter with injection off to get as much of the old oil out then do the same when filed up before I start it. As for type of oil 5W-40W full synthetic as I have seen first hand the crap non synthetic leaves behind.

Has anyone used DELVAC? Its a diesel oil and is meant to be very good.
