Hey guys,

So a LWB sierra has come up very cheap in my area.
Going to have a look at it this week, from the pictures i have seen, it needs a quite a bit of a tidy up. but doesnt look like theres any noticable dents.
So far this is the information ive been told

-1993
-1L
-4 speed
-198,000kms
- GTI Seats
- Stock lift
- no rust
- Comes with RWC

So... I thought 1993 would have to be a 1.3L not a 1L?
Would this be NT or WT - How would i tell when i see it?

Would are things to look for in the Sierras? Rust in certain areas? engine faults? ect.

Here are the pics i was sent so far.

Being a 1993 it will be a Maruti which could be either a WT or a NT. All Maruti's are 1L. The 1L are apparently quite good to drive as they have lower gearing but I think have a tall first gear.

Rust in the sills, edges of the floor, where the flare mounts to the body and in the corners below the windscreen are common spots. Mine has a small amount of rust in the top of the trans tunnel near the firewall and a small section on the rear floor behind the wheel arch where there is another plate welded to the underside of the body, its rusted between the layers.

If its a WT it will have metal wheel arch flares and the leaf springs will be mounted outside the chassis rather than inline.

EDIT: body looks pretty straight, has the interior/rear tub been painted with tar? this could equal hidden rust, also looks like its been resprayed at some point so be wary of whats hiding underneath

Cheers for all the info :)

From the info if found, its better the get a NT, then put WT difs on it.
This will be a project, so if i cant find any rust ill be happy.

Dont know if id be keeping the 1L for long, due to i would like to run 33's, 6.5 Gears, 2" lift, and a virtual lift (to keep it lower)

Not sure if you can fit the transfer gears in the mariti case as there a little different

It doesn't really matter either way if its WT or NT, if NT you will need to find a set of WT diffs.

If its a WT its not a huge amount of work to move the spring mounts under the chassis to get the advantages of the NT spacing in the front.

FYI if you decide to put a 1.3 or a 1.6 in it you will need different chassis mounts for the engine (cut some off a dead sierra chassis). I'm putting a G16b in my 1990 maruti chassis and I'm undecided if I use a set of sierra chassis mounts or mod the vitara ones to make the engine sit lower. The transmission mount is different too but I think you can put 5 speed internals in a 4 speed box, the 1L trans tunnel is also a bit smaller, I've chopped the sides of mine out to fit an auto, for a complete 5 speed I think you can massage it with a hammer.

fairly certain a maruti case is a 1L case with switch so gears should fit

It's a NT, WT have big metal flares.

Maruti transfers will take transfer gears, they're the light switch type.

1ls are awesome but 6.5s with 33s will have it turning at 4250 RPM at 100. If you go WT diffs the diff ratio will be to low and it will only be doing 3800. You really need 4500+ in a 1l. If you went for 4.625 Vitata diff gears you'd be doing 4780rpm at 100 which is pretty perfect.

The Maruti transmission tunnel is the same is a 1.3l one because they use the "big case" gearbox that you can turn into a 5 speed. It's only earlier 1ls that have the smaller trans tunnel, once 1.3ls came out they used the same. I believe the 1.3l Sierra gearbox bolts in (if you're putting a G motor in, bellhousing pattern is different to the F motors).

So if i was keeping the 1L with the 1L tranfer case, Then popping 33" tires and WT difs on it. 4.625 gears would be what i would want to pop in the 1L case?

Ahh okay...

So is that the best way to run the 33's?

- 6.5's in 1L case and WT difs with 4.625's in?

depends what motor you will end up with
if you stay 1 litre then yes.
if you go to g16b i wouldnt want it revving constantly at 4000rpm, 3.7 or 3.9 diffs would be perfect for a g16

I have a stock geared maruti with 33s an a G16A, , goes very well, dont need first mostly, only when cold or uphill, do want to lower the gearing a tad because of the style of driving she mostly does, but for road use, sweet as, G16 and 33s, not a drama.

Without taking into acc the speedo change with the far bigger tyres, she sits on 100kph up hill and down dale with ease, and when you want its still got plenty of get up and go.

I think they came out with 27" tyres, so that is a 18% upgrade on the gears, easy as.

Well if i get it ill just test it,

Have access to some 33's, 31's and 30s....
So i can see how stock goes, and work it out from there :)

Main thing is the clearing to fit the tires first,
Want it low n fat, but still have good travel

Yeah thinking 1/1.5/2" springs, RUF, Virtual lift, NO body lift

Havent had much of a look into it (Spec wise) but the above seems to be the go :)
