I can't see any terminals on the baleno temp gauge so I don't see how it even works!!
I'm trying to graft I into the sierra cluster, anyone got pics or sumfing

Sorry Jon, I don't recall what we did with the Tug. I've gone out and had a look, and we're only using the stock temp sensor that's in the Baleno thermostat housing. It's too hard to check what we did now because in the Tug the old sierra body engine loom was stripped and merged with the baleno engine loom. I do know the Baleno temp sender reads fine on the stock Sierra gauge.

hrmm... I will try it ouit with the sierra one, i always heard on AZthat it was wildly innacruate?
i have a digial aftermarket that i'm going to put in too though.
in fact i have 1.5 after market ones after the first one's gauge was smashed in the post so I'm going to put beofre and one afer the engine and have both senders going to the same gauge with a switch for the signal wire.
I know this is useless but its tricked out!!!

Why do you need to graft the baleno thing in?

Just use the standard sierra guage, remove the seirra sender from your old engine, and put it into your new engine? (removing the baleno temperature sender from your baleno engine)

X2 and there is no obvious place to add a sensor, unlike a sierra/vitara manifold.

You could put a sensor adapter inline with the radiator hose which isn't ideal, a factory option would be nice.

You might be able to go all scientific and measure the resistance of the sensors on a stove with a thermometer and add a resistor before the cluster??

Baleno has a 3 pin terminal on the sender as it feeds both the cluster and the ECU, sierra takes 1 spade terminal which is for cluster only. thread might also be different?

The baleno one isn't calibrated for the sierra gauge and vice versa so really the best option is to use a sierra sender at some point to feed the cluster.

3 pin combined sender. What a pain in the ass.

Agreed best bet is to try and find a home for the sierra temp sensor. you want to make sure its on the "inner loop" of the coolant system. measuring the temp of the water being heated when the thermostat is closed.

I just want to know how to connect the wires to the baleno gauge as its all ready cut up to be put in the sierra cluster.
Ther are no obvious terminals so obviously the housing would show me where the points touch the gauge body
I can do the rest easy

Ok so I've consulted the diagrams I have here.

The wiring for the temp sender on the baleno should have a Pink/Black wire coming from it, this is the wire that goes to the gauge in the cluster.


The Sierra wiring will just have a female spade terminal that went to the Sierra sender, this will be a Yellow/White wire. If you are suing the baleno temp guage you should only need to cut the Pink/Black wire from the Baleno sender and join it to the Yellow/White of the Sierra wiring. Using the baleno sender and baleno guage it should work nicely and the temp will read just as it did in the baleno.



I couldnt tell you how to put the baleno gauge in the sierra cluster but the clusters I've pulled apart seem to be somewhat modular so it shouldnt be too bad. Cairnszook has done it in his guide so you might be able to see if he has pic/can tell you how he did it.

EDIT: the baleno wiring had 3 wires to the temp sensor Pink/Black is to the cluster, Light Green/Red to the ECU and Green/Red which is the sensor ground.

perhaps I will just "try" the pink wire pressed up against the housing on the temp gauge and see what happens. it's all metal without any sort of insulation on it.
i will use a power and earth from the sierra dash somewhere.
If i get the needle moving I'm on to something good... on hte 26th of this month as I have a train/bus/plane/car to catch tomorrow

although maybe it's groiunded by the HOUSING and does have a sneaky terminal somewhere, I should be able to follow the miles of copper coil from the positive to the negative in the gauge though
