Hey guys,
My Starter motor is on its way out....have a lot less successful starts these days and I reckon its gonna totally die when I need it most so time to change it over.

Now I've had a quick look and i tell ya, it looks almost damn near impossible to get in there and get it out. I read somewhere you have to undo the engine mounts and tilt the motor slightly to get it out. IS that right.

Not much info on line anywhere on starter motor replacement. Hoping cause its easy as 2 bolts and its out, but doesn't look like that.

Anyone done it, tips tricks, suggestions.

if it is a 1.6 just undo the starter motor bolts and drop it out from below, was easy enough to do with one person.

Yeah just a 1.6....I'll give it a crack. If it dose'nt work, I'm coming after you (running though, cause i wont be able to start my car!)

And you need to remove the 2 wires as well.

And make sure you unplug the positive terminal on teh battery while you do it, as the big fat wire on the starter motor is always live.

Small spanners help.
I modded a spanner, and modded the inner guard to get easier access.
Now I have some proper small socket sets.
Body lift helps.
Mine drops out from underneath, with a twist and turn

I have had to take mine in an out multiple times, It is not that big of a job.
In the picture below, you can see all you have to undo is two bolts where it connects to the transmission. And then you have to unplug the trigger wire, and undo the power supply wire. Three bolts all up, so no biggy. Although, if you haven't taken it out before, it might need a little smack with a rubber mallet (after you have undone the bolts) to get it moving. Then you will need to maneuver it out past all the cables and etc that is in the way. I would say it might take you 1 - 1.5 hours if you haven't done it before.
