wasnt one of the 'zookers making fibreglass LJ50 / LJ80 bonnets recently?

a good original bonnet is pretty well unobtainium these days.

I think Tony was going troppo trying to find a bonnet and might have given up- and could be taking a mould off someone elses bonnet,

I'm a bit hazy on who is doing what as there have been a few blokes all looking at this option- but one bloke rattled on about doing a production run of a heap of LJ bonnets.

Someone will point fingers soon,

I was thinking of making some a while back but when I looked into it I would have to wreck my good LJ50 bonnet to take a mould off it so I changed my mind. The catch for the bonnet hold downs on the sides of LJ50 bonnets is not removeable like an LJ80 so you would have to cut them off to make your mould. The cost was not a factor, I reckon a good original LJ50 bonnet is probably worth a couple of hundred to the right person, you would make your money back on fibreglass ones but it was just the thought of cutting a bonnet that is just so hard to find in original condition.

It would be more effort and cost but wouldn't you be able to make a mould with them attached, make a bonnet fibre bonnet, delete them from that and then make another mould? Like you say you could still make your money back for others but you would still have your original condition bonnet.

Smooth over the catch bracket thingo with a lump of plasticene, then take your mould off the bonnet.
The plasticene lump will leave a hollow in your new mould which can then be filled in with bog or fibreglass- leaving a flat surface for the new bonnet.
It would be a good idea to give this area some extra layers of matt to strengthen it as you will be needing to bolt or rivet your new catch brackets there.

Then remove the plasticene from the original bonnet and all is good.

Yeah, no reason to chop them off. Just smooth out that part of the mould. Get Bruce to make new Stockman bonnet brackets and everyone wins.
