Gday peoples, my lil girl has developed a terrible high pitched squeel, like a very dry bearing that has siezed.

It does not do it all the time, and when it does, you can get rid of it by going WOT for a bit, few secs.

It will even do it when the engine is off, seriously, had it at the mechanics, it squeeled finally, then turned the engine off, and about 2-3 secs later, again the squeel, from normal high pitch and loud to softer deeper and stop.

WTF is going on, spent all Friday searching, pulled the gearbox out, bearings are only about 500kilomets old, all were perfect, did replace spigot, but that wasnt it.

Sometimes it will squeel, and sometimes it wont.

As best I can describe it, its from the bellhousing area, and sounds all the life like a siezed bearing, its loud, but will stop and no noise ??

Any Ideas ?

does it do it in neutral as well as in gear? Clutch depressed neutral and gearstick neutral?

Every way mate, in gear, out of gear, driving, stationary, foot on clutch, foot off clutch, but only when it wants too.

Big end or main bearing?

No not from using a stethacope. The thing that has me beat, I will turn the engine off, it will be off for long enuf to get out of car, pop bonnet and then, up it starts for a few seconds ??

Can't be a bearing then. Is it an intake thing? Something that runs on vacuum?

Not that I know of, only bog stock in that regard, only thing that comes from the vac side is the dizzy advance

is it the exhaust??? a broken mount or something thats swinging in the breeze?

something to do with the starter motor?

No, not the starter, an nothing broken, it has me completely baffled.

The only thing that I can offer is that when it starts, foot down and it stops, driving of course.

What has me and the mechanics completely stumped is, that sometimes when you turn the motor off, it will start a few seconds after the engine has shut down, and squeal for a bit, thats really weird.

That's what makes me think vacuum related

- WOT = no vacuum
- squealing after engine shut off = vacuum slowly releasing

Intake leak maybe? I'm guessing there's no egr now?

Scrawn, we did a run with some start u basted with the engine running ??

That does make sence tho.

No brake booster, only leg power, only thing hooked up ius the dizzy vac advance.

Its dark now, but ill go have a looksy in the morning with that in mind.

It's a bit hard to give better ideas without hearing it

Scrawn, its sounds like a seized bearing or bush, high pitched loud scream/squeal, torture.
Nothing seized anywhere, or that we could find, 3 of us worked all day on it, mates garage, up on the hoist, down on the ground, then back up, down etc.

My little girl is quite loud, and it is very loud over that.

pcv valve maybe? (doubt it but it could be storing pressure up there?)

Possibly vacuum in the fuel tank? Do you have a carbon canister under the bonnet? This is the only thing I can see that might cause the squeal when the engine is not running.
