quick question.... does the tacho need to be wired in for it to run because I didn't even think about it but about 99% sure its not connected!!!

Considering the wiring issue you had with the coil/ignitor are you 100% sure that everything else is sweet?

There wasn't a problem in that wiring, it was where I had tapped into the ignition circuit to power the ECM.. just picked up off a circuit that didn't hold 12v while cranking :/ and I was waiting on a copy from killa kustom kables, of the wiring instructions so I can double check them (which I now have)... but there is essentially only 3 wires I had to solder in to the ignition (from a supplied loom that went through a fuse block and into a plug in the vitara harness) with an additional 3 wires for CEL, tacho and VSS if I want to wire them in I suppose. And yes, I did manage to get 1 wire wrong, as I misread the instruction on start signal/or didn't check it properly when cranking. but all sorted now... I think.

Just want to thank everyone for all the helpful info I received from you all in regards to this starting issue.... Finally sorted it out, and I am potentially a RETARD! after going through everything (seemingly) and losing my shit several times I decided to double check CEL codes the correct way, after cranking for 15 seconds (thanks Rhinoman)... low and behold 12 - everything is fine and dandy. So I had an epiphany - the only thing I didn't look at way my cone type AFM (which is sitting on the ground, plugged in but not working as an AFM now is it??) So I tried cranking whilst in neutral position.... start... sputter.... stop. Try cranking in fully open position... WOOP WOOP SHE RUNS and i'm a retard! the one thing I hadn't checked in almost the entire circuit :/ so once again, thanks for putting up with the retarded questions and pointing me in the right direction! I now have a much better understanding of the inputs/outputs to the ECMs and sensors/circuits and hope I can help others when the time comes
