Ive just put new shoes in the rear, released adjusters as normal to fit the drums on.

Apon test driving the rear brakes were holding on, could smell them and it lacked power. I got home and jacked up the rear and only the right was holding on but enough to spin the wheel by hand. Ive also disconnected the spring from diff to proportion valve as ive lifted the rear a fair bit.

2 things, either the spring needs to be on so both brakes receive the same braking force or
The new shoes could take a while to free up?

Need to back off the adjuster by the sound of it. It's just a little ratchet thing.

theres a gap you can fit a screwdriver through to turn the cog to loosen it off. very easy while you have the drum off.
pump the peddel 20-30 times to tension it to the correct ammount after backing it off if you want any rear breaks

There should be a grommet on the back of the hub... Take that off and use a screwdriver to adjust it... Saves time in taking the whole wheel off etc
