Hey guys,

Finally got a bit of motivation to pull the dodgy ass RHS "body lift blocks" out of my sierra ute. I thought that would be the end of the bad fabrications but it turns out the body studs themselves have been SIGNIFICANTLY shortened.
Without a tape I'd be guessing to about 15/20mm long.

I'm wondering what my options are as their is no chance of the Just_cruizin female bolts grabbing or even of going back to no body lift as the studs just aren't long enough.

Cut the floor, fit regular bolts. It's all you can do.

Urghhh, I think the hardest part of doing that is finding someone who knows what they're doing. I just don't think I can trust any shops who don't have a general idea about cars.

I thought about shortening the female bolts and body blocks but too risky if it's ever rolled or in an accident.

Might have to get everything else done for a roadworthy and then take it to Melbourne to get fixed. Just a tonne of $$$ for a few studs dammit

Hmmm, might work but still seems a bit on the dodgy side of things. It's a question of will that still retain a good amount of strength in the case of an accident more then will it make my cab mountable.

Yea fair enough, I'd do what Gwagen suggested if possible.

Going to ponder on it a bit more as I'd really be left with no choice other then to tow it 5hrs to Melbourne to get it done and that'll start to rack up the cost...but I still want it to be safe.

Will the way superduki be ok with I dropped it back down to standard? That way the "dowels" as such won't have to be nearly as long or added to with the female bolts.

How much body lift are you after?
If it wasnt really important, could you use the female bolts etc for a 2" kit, and only do a 1" body lift?

That would work but there isn't thread the whole way up the inside of the female bolt. I suppose I could cut both the block and the female bolt down to match....but even then there won't be a whole lot of "grab".

Have you tried the body lift bolts as yet? How much bolt is left

The female bolts supplied in your kit are not even close to grabbing. I can take a photo tomorrow but I'll upload one I have at the moment of the old blocks and amount of stud left

Mhmm. Because other then these 4 outside studs being chopped down, it's really quite tidy.

Strip the cab down, bung it in the back of your ute, bring it to mine and ill weld in some new studs
we can 45 your sills whilst we are at it

That is a 1.0lt body on a 1.3 chassis hence the issue. I have done bolts for these in the past, I get some done and swap them over. I'm out with work for a couple of weeks but if you can wait ill sort it.

Really?? I thought it was all standard. All the plates and numbers match and the tunnel hasn't been changed.

The bolts look chopped.

Could be but whoever did it went to a lot of effort to thread the studs all the way

I've seen a body lift done exactly that way before in Vic. I took some photos of the car I saw it on. What a hideous mess. The car I looked at also had shock mounts, exhaust, and a traction bar all fitted above the body lift, so that would have all cut out to take the horrid BL out. Waste of a clean WT.

When I did the BL on my old sierra I used solir steel stock cut to length and had a hole drilled and tapped in the middle for this exact reason.

screw the tapped BL block on and then a bolt up into the bottom of it. Use lots of Locktite


Never came loose with all the flogging I gave it.

That method still requires you to cut the studs to allow room for the bolts up through the chassis

but in Bucket's case the studs are already cut and if he wants to install body lift blocks then its one solution
