I am in the process of installing my 6.5 gears. I have put the low and high speed gears onto the shaft, however there is a slight bit of play with the low speed gear. It moves side to side (not twisting) by less than half a mm, and the high speed gear is a tad less - Is this OK?
Mecho at work reckons it is OK, but I wanna check with techsperts.

I recently removed Rockhopper S3 gears that had been in for 3.5 years and they had a bit of play, replaced with trailmaster 6.5 and same amount of play.

I figured it was normal. You could probably shim between the spacer ring and the gear if you were a bit worried.

Also the 6.5s have done one trip now, very quiet at highway speeds. Only whine a bit at 40-50km/h.

I had a slight amount of play in mine when I rebuilt the transfer, but it's been fine. Not really any noisier on the road, sounds a bit whinier than a standard transfer case when I'm crawling, but nothing too bad. I just figured it was pretty normal considering the size of the gears.
