just made up a bit of steel plate for the center of the dash for some switches and stuff, but ive still got a fair bit of room left so what gauges are the go in sierras?

Would help if you mentioned what you had already, but water temp and a clock are the only things I can think of that would be helpful to me.

I suppose if you had dual batteries possibly a dual V gauge.

It all depends on your level of paranoia. I've built quick street cars and i had 8 gauges plus the power fc controller displaying an extra 4 outputs. It was good to monitor what was going on. But on a Zook its a bit pointless as far as I'm concerned.

So back to the original post.. what do YOU want to keep an eye on?

Sierras don't need gauges, can smell when they are hot, they get rattly when out of oil and they don't go when out of fuel.

Why do you need two water temp gauges? The car already has one. An oil pressure gauge is just an engine wear gauge for a car with a standard motor..... And so it goes on.

I have stock (Vitara) gauges for everything other than auto trans temp, which is, in my application (unlike, say, a jimny) actually unnecessary. I didn't know that though before I fitted the gauge.

Well in my case it was because the connections on the back of the cluster were fried and it was a lot easier to get an aftermarket gauge then to try and fix the cluster/source a different one.

Honestly there is really nothing to monitor.

Stating the obvious but a Voltmeter is very handy esp. in the bush,keeps track of Alternator & Battery at a glance.

volt meter id agree with but i have a cig lighter/usb charger dongle that has a voltage readout on it. works just fine for me

only other gauge id run is an oil temp guage. if you have a sudden complete loss of coolant your dash gauge usually wont show anything more than a slight bump before returning to normal, meanwhile your oil temp is skyrocketing and your engine is suffering untold damage. ive found that out the hard way before...

Yeah,we had one on our 1970's Datsun Rally car,the sender unit for the Oil pressure & Temp. screwed into the block where the standard oil sender switch fitted.IIRC the Temp. side of things was misleading but the pressure gauge worked well,little red light come on when it dropped below 20 psi.
I tried to find one for sale in another Thread on here but had no luck but someone would sell them,i think they were German,VDO?.
Not much point fitting a Oil temp. sender to the sump of a 4WD,too much chance of damage from a rock or branch.
I use the Cigarette dongle for Volts as well but if your putting in a cluster for Gauges you may as well add a decent Voltmeter.
