Hi all!!

Looking at the long ranger tank for my LWB Sierra project however I'm having trouble locating which model (if any of them) will fit.

My Sierra is a LWB body back with rear seats. '85 1.3

Options: according to Long Ranger they produce the TR07 which is for "all LWB model Utes", or the TR20A for all SWB models.

Im trying to get an answer from them, haven't managed yet, which one should fit my jalopy.

I'm guessing the LWB tank they produce is to suit the tray back version with the tank mounted on the left side beneath the front of the tray and the SWB will (rear mounted tank) will suit my tub. Can anyone confirm?

I don't know if any differences in the tanks, mounts, fillers, or space in which they fit between the SWB sierras and my LWB body back. Do you?

Has anyone got the long ranger tanks and have feedback or thoughts on them?

i know our fuel tank guards for swb fit all sierras including maruti if that helps

You'll be able to find a longrange second hand tank, They come up every now and then.

A new one is probably worth as much as your Sierra.



A LWB Sierra with a tub runs the same tank as a SWB.

No I'm not intending to run body lift. Is it a SWB vitara tank (I know little or nothing about Vits)? What sort of work to the mounts?

Yeah they're X'y, but I'm throwing heaps of cash at this project. Full rebuild and do it right.

So a SWB long ranger tank would be the one to opt for if I go that way?

LWB styleside and SWB tanks are the same.
SWB 1.6 Vitara tanks have the same capacity as a Sierra tank.

Several people (including QLD or NSW rail?) have fitted trayback Sierra fuel tanks into longbody Sierras to give twin tanks. Personally I'd look at a Jimny tank, then the fuel filler is on the same side as the other, they're much easier to find and they have an inbuilt EFI pump. No idea if it will actually fit but it must be very close. Both are 40l. I'm sure you'd have no trouble sourcing the Landcruiser dual tank solenoid/s or you could pump from one tank to the other.

Custom brackets required of course.

I've seen a few longbody specific long range tanks on gumtree/facebook over the years that are 90l.

My ex QLD rail had a longranger tank. The thing was huge, I'd say around maybe 80 litres plus.

Wish I kept that thing and sold the SWB sometimes.

Here are the pics of the longrange tank I have in my LWB. The previous owner said they used to get about 800 Km range out of it.

That is different to how mine mine was.

Mine IIRC ran along the length of the car forwards of the rear axle housing. Stock tank was retained. A fuel pump pumped fuel into the original tank when desired with a switch on the dash.

Ah righto, so they bolt up to the chassis rather than their original tank mounts.. easier to do while it's bare chassis!!

Might consider which way to go. They said they could make one up that has a heavy duty bottom, help reduce tank damage. That is a bit appealing

Geez I'd get to Darwin and back!!! Might be exceeding max takeoff with 170kg of fluid slung underneath.. stiff springs and a Freightliner clutch should fix that lol

I had a Brown Davis 75L (approx) tank in my green LWB. Bolted in with a little modification (small grind) to the front most mounts. Exhaust had to be changed.

I have heard reports of the holden jackeroo 80l tanks being a very nice fit inbetween sierra chassis rails.
My understanding with the lingrangers is they mount poorly and force you to cut of existing tank mounts and attatch via ubolt type setup on the factory tube the tank mounts are welded to

The Jackaroo tank is to tall for a longbody but they fit great in a trayback.
