After breaking my draglink on the first round in mod class off TT yesterday l think it is time to revisit and beef up the steering.

I have a Pajero steering box with balljoint, custom draglink and standard tierod.

So l can make a stronger draglink which will need to be eye to eye ends or make a whole new setup

What's your thoughts?

What happened to Casper?

Thinking of either going to hilux cruiser steering components or heir joints. Th big issue is the angle from the pitman arm and if l keep it the same l need to go eye to eye again

Did rear short axle at the 800 point on track 3. Also did steering arm at same area.

Well l found a spare eye from th prototype l made so l can get wheeling again quick sticks but I still think I will upgrade the steering a bit

My custom made steering kit (high steer) is some weird alloy the engineer specified (not crmo, something else i can't remember) and about 20mm dia. I'm only running 31's but the steering has taken a beating and still goes great.

I reckon just_cruizin's solution is likely better than trying to frankenstein something.

JZ got any specks of what you are looking at making.

I think the main issue with mine is binding up due to the limited movement in the balljoint on the pitman arm.

I remember reading something a while back about reaming out the steering arms and putting hilux or cruise gear in upside down. This would get rid of the angles as well

Low Range Off Road offers a reamer for that purpose - allows the use of FJ80 ends.

Did you do it the same as or inverted when you modded it and how hard was it?

i just reamed the same way up.

you use a mixture of 80 series and 70 series tie rod ends and make the rids to suit

in this kit you need the fair right one and the far left one. These replace the part you broke on the weekend. the relay part. then the normal ball joint at the bottom you need two of to replace the ends

I run a hiem with misalignment spacers on my Toyota box and it use to be a stock TRE on the other end when it was Zook diffs. I have to keep an eye on the bolt and have got in the habit of giving it a little nip up before each trip to make sure its still tight.

We were looking at that idea as well but will depend on whether I can get a pitman arm that will fit the pajero box that has an eye not a ball joint.

Progressed my kits today, arms are underway. Rods end are Landcruiser components. Arms will be 4340. I'm planning on either running a knuckle and steering arm exchange or including reamers in the kit

I just ordered a 40 series kit that should have all I need. I did order the reamer from Superior but they are telling me a 3 week wait.
I will just need to work out the rods in between, not sure whether to modify Toyota gear or fabricate myself, then there is the choice of solid or tube and chromo or not
