Hey all, looking at what gears to run, I'm running 31x10.5, go 4wding every second weekend or so but the Zook is my daily driver to and from work. mainly hill climbs, technical stuff, mud etc., rarely beach driving unless putting tinny in. Was looking a some 6.4.1s from sumo gears, anyone running these? or recommend anything else? will the revs be high and will this will restore power back in 5th gear correct? if so i should easily get to 100 if not 110? all stock engine, sj80, will be getting new exhaust system 2 inch along with headers and maybe upgrade carby soon.
Cheers all

I may be wrong but I am pretty sure 31's are to big legally to run on an sj80, but yeah 6.5s or 6.4s will deff help, I use to run 31's on my sierra but the boys in blue suggested I go down to 30s. just my 2c worth

The gears help but with 31"s its never going to drive like its running 29"s or 30"s. There will still be many an occasion especially in a strong headwind or an incline where 5th is just a distant memory.
With a 1.6 swap this becomes a non issue

Im assuming your front is locked ?
No point upgrading axles at all up front unless your locked.
Unsure on coily weirdness but sierra chromos are generally 26 spline meaning you need the side gears out of a rear diff if you have a lockrite or you need to order a rear air locker for the front to match the 26 spline axles.
Ive never had an issue in the rear running 32" tyres on standard axles. The only people ive known to have dramas are those who upgrade the rear axles to hd (seem weaker than stock) or those who go to a full float diff setup.

I’ve broken two stock semifloat axles on 34” Swampers. I don’t believe upgraded rear axles are required at 31”.
