Hey guys I'm new the the forum and suzukis. Have had a few Fourbies before most recently a tj wrangler with lift, front and rear lockers, winch and all the usuals. Bought the Jimny to have as a cheap daily and keep the short wheelbase fun happening!

Basically as its a daily i don't know whether the 80mm lift would be too much? From readin the forum im looking at getting some 215/75r15s so that i don't need any gearing adjustments and not sure what's the best lift a 40mm,60mm or 80mm. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to ruin fuel economy and general runabout drivability by lifting it too much. Would an 80mm tough dog behave ok on the road?

Also are all the jimnys the same in the way of suspension setup. Eg would a lift kit off an 01 fit my 06?

I would hate to see how 215's and a 3" lift would feel on any sort of side angle....

Stock gearing is just livable with 235's...but you will lose some economy...

The suspension has never changed on a jimny ie. The same lift that would fit a '98' model will fit a '2010' model

Yes this is precisely what I was worried about. I wouldn't imagine 215s and a 2 inch lift would do much to the economy. What does everyone rate as the best and most versatile 215 for a Jimny. I'm after not an insane road noise but something that will do well off road also. Was thing bf Goodrich a/t 215s as they seem quite chunky for an all terrain. I've been a cooper discover man all the way but they don't make the ST in a 215

I have km2s in 215s, they work well were I drive, also kumos kl71 I thing they are all so come in 215s.
Both of them really are no were near a all terrain but will perform pretty good offroad

Just saying still will be tippy at some stage. Mines doesn't feel that bad nd I was on a slop, but I have no sway bar and Jimmy bits shocks are quite soft for my liking.

I'm running 215s on the 3inch jimnybits and don't find it too bad on side slopes at all.
Mind you, I'm not out there blowing up reverse gears either.

I am only pointing out that a 3" lift(or 90mm JB lift) and 215's will be much more unstable than say a 2" lift with 215's....

What's the worst side angle/slope you have been on?

my cousin is running 215/75r15 BFG KM2 with no lift at all in his jim.. it scrubbed a little when brand new, but given 5000km they dont rub anymore =P

See, I don't agree. A 2 inch lift that has poor spring rates or is incorrectly dampened, can be more unstable than a 3 or more realistically 4 inch lift that has the right spring and shock rates for the vehicle's weight.

I agree that the jimnybits kit is somewhat overkill for a mild daily - that's what mine's supposed to be - but I feel more stable on this setup than the OME 40mm I drove a couple weekends ago.

Side slope was probably around 30 degrees at a guess, slippery Alpine clay and loose rock up past Licola. But driven carefully taking the most neutral line for pitch and roll, it felt pretty planted to me. You learn to cope with side slopes when your first fourby is a series landrover - those bastards are narrow and tall.

So what your trying to say having a higher COG is going to make the jimny more stable then having a lower COG?

Nope, what im saying is that stability isn't as simple as COG. spring rates and shocks mean every bit as much in managing stability as height.

and driver sensitivity to all of these factors and how they work Together is the difference between staying upright or taking a nap.

No lift is "required" to run 215's.

Smaller lifts result in less compromised vehicle behavior.

I am running 215 on a stock Vitara with no hassles. If I want 235 then I would need a 2" lift. The Jimny would be fine with 215 as from memory it has more clearance than mine.
I am getting a 2" lift for the crossmember clearance, not because of any tyre scrubbing problems.

5 inch lift and 31s on 15x8-28 offset going nearly as wide as u do high,
and handles well
