Mrs Zukenutter has broken something in her gearbox, I thought it was the diff but now upon further inspection is the gearbox.
Her Jimny is a late 2006 VVT with push button 4WD with about 50,000km
when putting drive through the gearbox at idle speed you can hear a click, click, click noise and when you pick up the speed it gets louder until you hear a loud metallic bang/clunk.
Points I've noticed; - Does it in every gear
- The faster the rear wheels spin the louder and more violent the noise is - Listening with a screwdriver to the ear the noise seems to be louder at the rear output of the box - There's definitely no faulty 4WD engaging type issues. The front shaft is definitely stationary - My hopeful thoughts are that maybe it's the output bearing
Will probably need a gearbox professional, any suggestions in Brisbane North. Gearboxes are something of virgin territory for me.

Paul, take it to Diff and Gearbox in 2/280 Newmarket Rd, Wilston. Tell them you know me and they will look after you.

Gearbox has been removed and stripped. turns out to be main output shaft bearing and with the gears flopping about two gears have been damaged.
So it's either find a 2nd hand box to suit it in a hurry or rebuild with genuine parts for $2200. Bugger!! Money to nothing, could have gotten Air lockers F&R.
Does anybody know if all M series have the same gearbox/ratios or are the VVT models different?
