I need some good ideas for an tray

i know it would look better with he axle placed backwards
but that`s going to give lots of trouble to keep it road legal

anyone?!

Don't matter wat u do it's still going to look stupid with a 3 foot tray
Coil the rear end then u can drag the diff back with out a chassis extention
Fliped controll arms in the original spring hanger might work
Then all u need is coil seat and a panhard rod and shock mounts

the big problem is that over here extending the wheelbase is an no-go

and it would not pass any MOT

It's not an extension of the chassis. You welded in some new sections to repair chassis damage, bugger....I cut them a little to long

There not allowed to change the chassis in any way or the car is never to be registered again
The bits 4 vits gv had the back bobed of and then he could never get it passed
Are u sure u can't extend the wb if u don't change the frame only add to the inside of it
It's all to do with rear crash rules or something like that isn't it

the wheelbase is registerd on the papers
and checked every MOT

maybe its possible to extend it
but it will be a long road
it has to be checked out totaly to get a new register
and then there gone bug about the spoa the engine the winch and all the other shit that makes it a good 4wd

and then after all the blood and tairs the are going to tell me that its never gonna happen

so then i lost a lot of money and still havent got MOT


meantime i'm looking out for an lwb chassis but there hard to come by over here

just put a flat tray on to cover it up then... no point trying to polish a turd =) just drive it!

Maybe try to find an ID plate from a LWB, that could be easier to find.

Was thinking what about some kind of toolbox type tray? Depending on what you use it for.

Explaining what I mean, basically almost a flat trayback, but a couple of hundred mm deep and the lid on gas struts so you can put crap in it or on top of it.

I suppose it depends if you're going to cage it or not though.

Its hard to tell but I think the axle may have been moved back a touch, but the look of the cage it self is alright.

^ That looks like it has a double B pillar! Good for a spacecab.

If your able to weld onto the chassis, 3link+panhard the rear, link it for standard length wheelbase, and make longer arms, tailshaft for a longer wheel base setup. So that also means 4 rear top coilmounts. and 2 panhard mounts.. Makes things easier to swap for mot. But i guess they would pick on the welding too..

I watched a show a while ago on tv, looks like they are getting picky everywhere. Even russia, where the cars fall apart, so many trucks and cars failed and many old people were complaining.

i now this one for a while
and the first plan was to build somthing like it
it has an vitara/tracker axle with coils under it
so its a inch or 3/4 longer

but then i came along matt's lwb and fell in love

plan is to make a short tray for the challenge i'm gonna drive in
so it's nice and tight between all the l#ndr#v#r shit driving there


not done yet so there's no sign of any bracing yet
but there's gonna be plenty of that in time

Why so high? Putting anything on the tray will now be pointless as the COG will be so much higher making it more prone to rolling.

Why did you cut the back off in the first place, was there a reason?

Thats a fair enough reason, I was only asking to find out what sort of tray you were going for. Eg: if you chopped it because you are going to use it in competitions, then storage isnt really neccessary, however if you chopped it because you were hoping to store more crap, then you would need a very useable tray.

I still think lower it so that it matches the height of the front guards, but thats just my opinion. Best of luck with it!

That green thing would have to be one of the first cut down ute conversions that actually looks alright. They have made the body/tray flow.

It's a shame that more aren't built that well. It's not really a chop though (as in a trayback conversion) it's more of a tubed out tub.

It would be interesting to see what it looks like now though - it reckon there would be some funky flexing/stress going on between the stock panels and the tube rear. I reckon it would be a prime candidate to crack around the transition. Sierra bodies move a lot on the chassis and my guess is the tube won't be moving at all relative to the chassis.

@brenno:its going to compete next year in the www.noordelijke4wdchallenge.nl in an field of all l@ndr@vers.
so there is no need for big storage only some recovery materials
highjack groundanckor and that kind off stuff
unlike the lr i want it to be light, short and small
so i can drive where they get stuck
